The Power of Words: How to Speak Truth Daily

You know that moment when you walk into a room and start to question if you belong? Your pulse quickens. Your confidence flickers. Before you speak, your thoughts have already begun telling a story.

Why Your Words Matter

Our words shape the worlds we walk in. What we repeat—whispered in doubt or spoken with conviction—eventually becomes what we believe. Daily affirmations aren’t about pretending everything’s fine; they’re about choosing truth over fear and aligning thought with what’s real.

A Real Moment in Atlanta

Not long ago in Atlanta, GA, I attended the Venture Atlanta Conference—a gathering of venture capitalists and tech founders. The slogan “Connecting capital to companies” was everywhere, and suddenly, I felt small. A familiar voice whispered: You don’t belong here.

Instead of shrinking, I chose new words: “I belong here.” I said it quietly, then repeated it over and over with intention. Something shifted—my body followed my words. I stood taller, started conversations, listened, and learned. Confidence didn’t come from the room; it came from the truth I chose to believe. That’s the power of speaking truth: it changes how you think—and how you show up.

How to Put This Into Practice

That moment is an example of a practice I live. Here’s how you can do the same when fear tries to speak first:

  1. Notice the narrative. Pause and listen to the words you’re telling yourself. Awareness is the doorway to change.
  2. Name the truth. Ask, What’s actually true here? In Atlanta, the truth wasn’t that I didn’t belong; it was that I was invited, prepared, and ready to grow. Write your truth in your own words.
  3. Repeat it until it roots. Speak your affirmation out loud—even if your feelings haven’t caught up yet. Pair it with a daily ritual: each time you apply your SayLa balm, pause and say your truth—“I’m grounded.” “I’m enough.” “I’m growing.” Over time, those words shift from sounding true to feeling true.

See It, Then Do It

At Venture Atlanta, my phrase was simple: “I belong here.” Each repetition reoriented me toward truth and unlocked meaningful conversations I might have missed. Use mine as a template, then choose your own: “I am capable.” “I’m learning how.” “I am ready.” Say it out loud until your actions follow your words.

Questions to Ground Your Practice

  • When was the last time fear tried to narrate your story?
  • What truth can you speak over that moment now?
  • How might your day change if your words reflected what’s real—not what’s feared?
